Icarus of the Alps

jetA Swiss pilot Yves Rossy has devised his own flying machine with four mini jets to propell him at speeds of up to 187mph. So far he is able to fly up to 6 minutes, but with further design it will be possible to fly longer. Mr Rossy still jumps from an aircraft in his Jet Man guise and later uses a parachute to land. The machine is made from model aircraft jet and unmanned military drones and wings are kevlar.

Dynamic 3D with CSS and the DOM

3d-perspective2
James at Brothercake has created a
3D dungeon model
through clever manipulation of CSS and the DOM. It even has correct shading (JavaScript). Well done.

This example shows once again how with a little more thought we are able to create something amazing with a very simple idea. CSS has showed us over and over again how it is possible to achieve quite advanced and complicated coding with few lines of CSS.

Predict Human History

The philosopher Karl Popper believed it was impossible to predict human history. One of his stands was that it was impossible to predict innovation. If someone knows what they are going to invent tomorrow, then they would have already invented it. So according to Popper, human history is undetermined. Just something for you to think about.

Fuel cell Milestone

polttokennolaturi
First fuel cells are starting to be ready to conquer the streets. MTI Micro's pocket size Mobion-1 is capable to charge an average cell phone battery over 30 times or take more than 5,000 pictures on a small portable digital camera. The almost ready fuel cell which contains 100% methanol, is light weight and most importantly has longer device run time. Mobion-1 exceeds the energy density of average Li-ion batteries.

Companies such as Samsung have already signed an agreement with MTI Micro. Read more about Mobion-1 from mtimicrofuelcells.com

Annoying things on the net

Have you ever been on websites that make you fume with anger. Sure you have! There are endless amounts of websites that haven't given any thought to what users think of their website or simply do not care, they just want it to be cool.

So today I just thought of putting up a list of things that I find most annoying on the web. (not in any specific order)

  1. Ridiculous URLs
    • Some times the URL is so long that when you paste the URL on to an email it wraps on to the next line and so it breaks and cannot be directly clicked
  2. Pop-ups
    • Do I need to say more?
  3. Overlaid adverts
    • New evil brother of pop-ups
    • Just like a pop-up but they appear on top of the article and not on a separate window. AND pop-up filters won't work on these bastards!
    • News websites seem to like these. And they make them appear on EVERY page you go ARRRRRRRR!!!
  4. Non-cross browser tested sites
    • Site breaks up on Firefox big time!
    • Is it so difficult to check that your website works at least on Explorer and Firefox
  5. Annoying javascripts
    • Stops you from right-clicking
  6. Pure Flash sites
    • Sometimes there is just no reason whatsoever to use flash. E.g. the site looks exactly like a normal website but is done with flash. So much wasted effort. Why can't these sites make an HTML site as well if they must use flash
That's all I can think of right now, maybe more later.
